The Best New Men’s Grooming Brands You Need to Know About Editors’ Recommendations How to Smoke Meat: Everything You Need to Know The word “maple” often brings to mind the word syrup.Definitely a great treat—but what about flavoring your water with maple? That’s just what two triathletes decided to do. Jeff Rose and Kate Weiler created DRINKmaple and claim it’s a natural and refreshing way to stay hydrated. Plus, maple sap contains 46 healthy nutrients. The idea for the company sparked in 2013. “Kate and I were doing a triathlon in Quebec and we stopped at a small coffee shop. We found maple water manufactured by a small Canadian company,” said Jeff. “We hydrated before the race and fell in love with the product and the concept.”Back in the states, they kept talking about the great maple water they had in Canada. When they started looking around, they couldn’t find anything similar. Sure, there are plenty of flavored waters on the market, including the forever-trending coconut water, but they couldn’t find a way to tap into maple water. They decided to create a company, but naysayers told them that getting it into a bottle would be an impossible feat.“We were told it couldn’t be done,” said Jeff. “We’re pretty thick headed and we persisted.” And so far, that persistence has paid off. Their dream became a reality in May 2014, when they officially launched the product.“We’re in 5,000 to 6,000 stores now and also in Europe. We also sell direct from our website,” he added. “By this time next year we’ll be in 10,000 stores. Some of the big retailers that carry our product are Whole Foods, Kroger’s, Wegman’s and we’ll launch in Sprouts next spring.” They collect the maple sap for their water from trees in Vermont. The water itself is vegan, gluten-free, non-GMO, dairy-free and packed with nutrients. They soft launched another product last year—watermelon water—and plan to launch in a bigger way soon.“The athletic people were the first people to find our product, but it’s not just for athletes. It is very low in sugar. Our maple water has half the sugar of coconut water,” he said. “It’s super hydrating and it’s a perfect every-day hydrator for pretty much everybody.”Bottles of DRINKmaple retail for $2.99. “This year’s observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People takes place at a critical time for the Middle East and the world,” said Secretary-General Kofi Annan. “Escalating violence and significant loss of life, mostly among Palestinians, but also Israelis, have increased mutual mistrust and animosity.” Stressing that the parties must pursue peace, Mr. Annan said both sides should realize that violence and the excessive use of force were the enemies of progress. “I share the hopes expressed by President Bush and US Secretary of State Powell that the Israeli occupation will soon end, and that two States – Israel and Palestine – will before long live side by side in peace with mutual respect and security,” he said. Also addressing participants, the President of the UN Security Council, Ambassador Patricia Durrant of Jamaica, agreed that in the current climate of violence, all concerned must engage in a concerted effort to check the hostilities and stop the suffering. The parties should unequivocally demonstrate the will to implement agreements reached to date, she added, pledging the Council’s readiness to assist in this effort. The Chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, Papa Louis Fall, welcomed the meeting between Yasser Arafat and Shimon Peres, and the fact that the need to create an independent Palestinian State had been publicly acknowledged by the United States and the European Union. At the same time, he stressed that the UN must remain seized of the question of Palestine until the matter had been resolved in all its aspects.Echoing this view, General Assembly President Han Seung-soo of the Republic of Korea, said the UN had a “special responsibility regarding the question of Palestine, until it is effectively resolved” comprehensively. “It is incumbent on all of us to see to it that this objective is accomplished,” he said. In a message to the gathering, Yasser Arafat, President of the Palestinian Authority, called for a more active intervention by the UN in securing the rights of the Palestinian people – a task which he said would require, among other steps ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent State with Jerusalem as its capital. The message was delivered on President Arafat’s behalf by the Permanent Observer for Palestine to the UN, Nasser Al-Kidwa.
