Ramos is unquestionable the axis of the rear (until his absence by sanction in Getafe, the captain had been a starter in all league games) and his partnership with Varane is virtually indissoluble for Zidane. Unlike his rearguard partner, his status seems defined in the unit B. The Brazilian is the 17th player in minutes of the white squad and even Getafe had only played 542 ‘(now it’s 632). A third of the minutes played by Militao correspond well to forced absences of Ramos (sanctioned for the games of Paris and Getafe), or half an hour of filming with Varane that Zidane gave him against Levante before the game against PSG. Muscle injuries (he suffered two in total that kept him a month and a half out at the beginning of the season) and Marcelo’s competition prevented him from coming into play regularly. But his characteristics and the physical problems of the Brazilian have made him start in seven of the last nine league games (one of his absences, against Valencia, was by penalty). No chips available and no intention to sign, Zidane will have to make the least usual his best winter reinforcements. Militao and Mendy are two of the candidates to acquire greater prominence and are beginning to have it. The two defenders, signings both last summer, had a hard time getting into the team, but with the passing of the minutes they are becoming a solvent alternative for their coach.
