The England winger scored deep into stoppage time at Bournemouth in August to secure a 2-1 victory.Sterling has previously faced criticism for failing to add end product to his prodigious dribbling skills and pace, but he has been prolific in front of goal so far this campaign. His goal at Huddersfield was his 12th in 18 appearances in all competitions.ADVERTISEMENT View comments Having started the season considered the side most likely to challenge the Premier League’s “Big Six,” Everton is swiftly falling into a fight at the other end of the table.Southampton became the latest side to take advantage of Everton’s disarray. Gylfi Sigurdsson’s long-range strike canceled out Dusan Tadic’s opener, but Charlie Austin scored two second-half headers before Steven Davis rounded off the scoring.Former Everton player David Unsworth has been in temporary charge since Ronald Koeman was fired on Oct. 23, but has managed just one win during his seven-game tenure. The club is still searching for a permanent replacement, with Unsworth’s failure to improve results likely having ruled him out.“I wouldn’t go that far so early,” said Unsworth, when asked if Everton were embroiled in the relegation fight. “I think we are in a tough moment, I think we have a massive week ahead of us. If you ask me that question next week I can give you a more honest view.Everton is now 16th, just two points clear of the relegation zone. In the corresponding fixture at the Emirates Stadium in January, Sanchez stepped up eight minutes into added time to give Arsenal a 2-1 win after Andre Gray had leveled with a penalty of his own five minutes earlier. There was only one spot kick on this occasion, as Sanchez found the bottom corner two minutes into stoppage time after James Tarkowski was adjudged to have pushed Aaron Ramsey.“There’s a lot of me inside, that’s raging a lot,” Burnley manager Sean Dyche said. “Football’s a harsh game and sometimes it hurts you.”It was only the second away victory in the Premier League for Arsenal this season and came against a Burnley side on a three-match winning streak, in which it had not conceded. The win moves the Gunners back above Tottenham and into the top four, but it remains 12 points adrift of City.___EVERTON CRISIS Don’t miss out on the latest news and information. last_img read more

Towns crier: Timberwolves big man emotional over NBA All-Star honor

first_imgPrivate companies step in to help SEA Games hosting After all the drama that has dogged the Timberwolves this season, this simple moment triggered in the 23-year-old a wave of pride, relief and joy.“It meant a lot to me, especially through everything I’ve went through from work to personal life,” Towns said after practice on Friday. “A lot of emotion came out yesterday when I found out, because I just felt like I had so much doubt against me. I worked so tremendously hard on my body, on my mind, on my spirit. When I got that moment, it just felt really special. It felt more special than last year.”FEATURED STORIESSPORTSPrivate companies step in to help SEA Games hostingSPORTSUrgent reply from Philippine ‍football chiefSPORTSPalace wants Cayetano’s PHISGOC Foundation probed over corruption chargesTowns was at an area multiplex on Thursday, treating Timberwolves and Lynx staff to an advance screening of “What Men Want,” a romantic comedy in which he has a cameo as himself. His All-Star game sequel, which will be played on Feb. 17 in Charlotte, North Carolina, has been better than the original. “A lot of things could’ve went sideways, in my personal life, in work, but I stayed true to myself,” Towns said, alluding to the recent death of a high school friend. “I stayed to who I was, and I didn’t lose myself at all, in all of it.”Towns, who joined Butler in Los Angeles at the midseason showcase last year, is only the seventh different All-Star in the franchise’s 30-year history. He’ll also become just the third player to go to the game more than once, an exclusive club with Kevin Garnett (10) and Kevin Love (three). Garnett, coincidentally, was at the team’s practice facility on Friday for a taping of his studio show on TNT. As Garnett walked past the interview Towns was conducting, he playfully teased his protege. The pair played together when Towns was a rookie.“In all our conversations, he didn’t ever say it was for him,” Saunders said. “He said, ‘I love what it means for the organization.’”Sports Related Videospowered by AdSparcRead Next Dwyane Wade, Dirk Nowitzki added NBA All-Star player pool by special order PH underwater hockey team aims to make waves in SEA Games PLAY LIST 02:42PH underwater hockey team aims to make waves in SEA Games01:44Philippines marks anniversary of massacre with calls for justice01:19Fire erupts in Barangay Tatalon in Quezon City01:07Trump talks impeachment while meeting NCAA athletes02:49World-class track facilities installed at NCC for SEA Games02:11Trump awards medals to Jon Voight, Alison Krauss LATEST STORIES Don’t miss out on the latest news and information. ‘We are too hospitable,’ says Sotto amid SEA Games woes SEA Games hosting troubles anger Duterte ‘We are too hospitable,’ says Sotto amid SEA Games woescenter_img US judge bars Trump’s health insurance rule for immigrants Oil plant explodes in Pampanga town Minnesota Timberwolves’ Karl-Anthony Towns, right, and Taj Gibson celebrate Towns’ game-winning shot in overtime against the Memphis Grizzlies in an NBA basketball game Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019, in Minneapolis. Towns has hit the 30-point mark five times in the last 17 games and, just two days ago, hit a buzzer-beating jumper to beat Memphis in overtime. He’s still prone to foul trouble, but his defense, as evidenced in part by his career-best blocks rate, has improved from his previous three years in the league.Towns has led the Timberwolves in scoring this season in 23 of 51 games and in rebounding 36 times, but in the aftermath of Jimmy Butler’s awkward departure this was already going to be his squad, both statistically and financially. The way Towns has handled himself off the court over the past year, however, has cemented his status as the franchise cornerstone. Andrew Wiggins also has the past first overall draft-pick status and the maximum-salary contract, but whether because of personality or position, he hasn’t displayed the same ability or willingness to carry the team. Butler’s trade request emerged shortly before training camp began, and he was not shy before or after his arrival in Philadelphia about criticizing Towns, who has not responded in kind.ADVERTISEMENT View commentslast_img read more
