first_imgIpswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has told talkSPORT Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United target Tyrone Mings will become a top player.The Portman Road boss signed the 22-year-old from Chippenham Town for £10,000 after a trial in 2013 and the youngster has grown into a vital figure for the Tractor Boys as they look to win promotion to Premier League.And McCarthy is confident Mings has everything he needs to have a successful career, whether it be in Suffolk or with another club.“He’s a great kid and he’s going to be a top player,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast. “There’s no doubt about it. I just hope he’s going to be a top player with us but he’s certainly going to be a top player.”And McCarthy revealed the player’s determination to succeed was there for all to see on the day he first saw the talented youngster.He added: “I walked across to watch him against the Nike Academy at our training ground and I saw him for three minutes with Russell Osman, fair play to Russ – he was the one who brought him in, and I said, ‘we’ll sign him’.“I took him off after 75 minutes and he was growling at me for taking him off. I said, ‘I’m taking you off because I don’t want you to get injured – I’m going to sign you, if that’s okay’.”last_img
