Wendell Of Women’s Basketball Wins Fourth MVC Player Of The Week Award This Season

LOUIS – Junior Lizzy Wendell (Blue Springs, Mo.) of the Drake University women’s basketball team won her fourth Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award this season, the league announced Monday, Feb. 1.Wendell had impressive performances in Drake’s road wins at Bradley and Loyola this past weekend. She averaged 25.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting 56-percent (19-of-34) from the floor and hitting 7-of-14 (50-percent) from three-point range.Friday at Bradley, Wendell scored a game-high 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting along with pulling down six rebounds, nabbing three steals and handing out three assists. Sunday at Loyola, she poured in another game-high 25 points, adding four boards, six assists, one block and one steal. Her 50 points in the two games puts her 11th all-time in program history in scoring with 1,621 career points.Wendell was named MVC Player of the Week each of the first three weeks of the season. She leads the MVC in scoring at 20.5 points per game, which ranks 22nd in the nation.Drake hosts Wichita State Friday night at 7 p.m. before welcoming Missouri State Sunday afternoon for a 2 p.m. contest.Print Friendly Versionlast_img
